There were twelve of us who ventured out on a hot day for the walk at Stump Pass Beach. As always, there were many plants and shrubs to look at. It seems that each walk there brings new discoveries. Some of the plants that were new to some of us were Beach Croton, Croton punctatus, (only found on sandy beaches); Indigo Berry, Randia aculeate, with fruit; Hercules Club, Zanthoxylum clava-herculis, (also called Toothache Tree) and Beach Creeper, Ernodea littoralis. Of course, the many dead and dying Australian Pines, Casuarina equisetifolia, were a subject of conversation. It was mentioned that at one time there was nothing in that area except Australian Pines! Nature has reforested the land with a variety of native plants.
