There were 15 members and guests who made the walk at Buck Creek. The weather was perfect and although we didn't see a lot of blooming plants we were able to I.D. about 5 shrubs, plants and trees.
We saw a large group of blooming Deerberries (Vaccinium stamineum) and some of the related Shiny Blueberries (Vaccinium myrsinites). The always pretty Yellow Thimbles (Polygala nana) were there and so were the springtime PawPaws (Asimina reticulate) with their 3 showy outer petals and 3 smaller inside petals. We saw one attractive growth of Sky-blue lupine (Lupinus diffuses) and another growth of it that looked decimated by insects or perhaps just old age. Cowpea (Vigna luteola) was beginning to bloom and the trails were crowded with the low, viney, White Milk Pea (Galactia elliottii) that will soon produce many white blossoms. We saw the mere beginning of a clump of Prairie Clover (Dalea carnea) that will bloom late in the summer.
