Join the Mangrove Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society and UF/IFAS Sarasota Extension Service member Dr. Mary Davis for a walk at Shamrock Park and Nature Center, 3900 Shamrock Drive, Venice.  Join us to learn more about the harsh environment of the Florida Scrub.  We may see Florida Scrub Jays and Gopher Tortoises.  Meet at the Nature Center.  This event is free and all are welcome to participate.  For more information contact mangrovechapter@fnps.org.  

Tuesday April 14 1PM.  The Mangrove Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society invites you to join us for our monthly chapter meeting and educational program at Lemon Bay Park and Environmental Center, 570 Bay Park Blvd., Englewood.  Sarah Denison Williams, Big Waters Land Trust Community Educator will delve into the fascinating world of Florida's carniverous plants.  Come early for social time and bring your packed lunch (12:15 PM).  This event is free and all are welcome.  For more information, contact mangrovechapter@fnps.org  

Friday, April 3, , 9:00-11:00 AM.  Join the Mangrove Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society and member Dr. Mary Davis for a walk at the Oscar Sherer State Park, 1843 S. Tamiami Trail, Osprey.  We will talk about the resident Florida Scrub Jay as we learn more about plant taxonomy and physiology.  Meet at the Nature Center at the end of the entrance road.  There is a $5 per carload fee to enter the park.  All are welcome to participate.  For more information, contact mangrovechapter@fnps.org.

Wednesday, March 11, 9:00-11:00 AM.  The Mangrove Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society invites you to join Dr. Bob and Barb for a morning of Botanical Meanderings at Myakka State Forest. Our meanderings will take us through a xeric pine forest along the Gordon Smith Trail, which has a large variety of wildflowers. Because the park is burned regularly, it remains in a sub-climactic state. The slow pace of this plant identification “walk” allows plenty of time to identify and photograph native plants along the trail. Located at 2555 S. River Rd in Englewood, drive about ¾ of a mile to the parking lot by the ranger station where we will meet. There is a $2 park entrance fee, payable online or at the park. All are welcome. Monday, March 23, 9:00-11:00 AM.  Join the Mangrove Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society and UF/IFAS Sarasota Extension Service member Dr. Mary Davis for a walk at the Manasota Scrub Preserve, 2695 Bridge St., Englewood.  Learn more about our amazing and unique Florida ecosystems as we explore the mosaic of plant communities that are typical of the SW Florida Flatwoods Ecoregion.  Meet at the preserve kiosk. Tuesday, March 10, 1:00 PM.  The Mangrove Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society invites you to join us for our monthly program at Lemon Bay Park and Environmental Center, 570 Bay Park Blvd., Englewood. Sherm Stratton and Dr. Linda Lovallo will discuss their work to save the giant air plant, Tillansia utriculata, that was threatened due to habitat loss and the Mexican bromeliad weevil. Saturday, March 7, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM. The Mangrove Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society invites you to attend its 23rd Annual PLANT NATIVE DAY at Lemon Bay Park, 570 Bay Park Blvd., Englewood. This year’s event will be supported by guest speaker, Laurel Schiller, from Florida Native Plants Nursery and Landscaping, guided walks, educational activities, and hundreds of member-grown plants for sale. Friday, March 6, 9:00-11:00 AM.  Join the Mangrove Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society and member Dr. Mary Davis for a walk at the Curry Creek Preserve, 1075 Albee Farm Road, Venice.  This preserve has an amazing array of plant species that we will explore and look for early spring blooms. Wednesday, February 11, 9:00-11:00 AM. The Mangrove Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society invites you to join Dr. Bob Horswill and Barb Siebel for a morning of Botanical Meanderings at Amberjack Environmental Park. The slow pace of this plant identification “walk” allows plenty of time to identify and photograph native plants along the trail. Amberjack Park is predominantly oak scrub and scrubby flatwoods. These xeric areas are almost exclusively found in Florida are the remains of prehistoric dunes. Located at 6450 Gasparilla Pines Blvd., Rotunda, 33947.
