Magnificent Mangroves - Tuesday, November 12, 1:00 PM - Lemon Bay Environmental Center

The Mangrove Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society invites you to join us to learn about “Magnificent Mangroves.”  Armando Ubeda returns to share an engaging hands-on presentation identifying the types of Mangroves living near the Lemon Bay Environmental Center, 570 Bay Park Blvd., Englewood.  BYOPicnic social at 12:15pm is a great opportunity to meet other members and the directors of our chapter.  This event is free and open to the public.  For more information, contact mangrovechapter@fnps.org.

Mangrove Chapter Walk - Saturday, November 16, 9:00-11:00 AM - Charlotte Flatwoods Environmental Park

Saturday November 16. 9:00-11:00 AM Join Dr. Bill Dunson from the Mangrove Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society for a nature walk at Charlotte Flatwoods Environmental Park, 15801 Tamiami Trail, Punta Gorda, 33955. This park is 487 acres of pine flatwoods, dry prairie, depressional marsh wetlands, and a constructed permanent freshwater pond.   We will be walking along an approximately 1.9-mile loop with uneven surface in places.  The parking area along the western side of US 41 is about 5 miles south of Tuckers Grade and just north of Zemel Rd.  This event is free, and all are welcome. Show up to Support Native Plants!  The Mangrove Chapter works hard to educate and increase awareness about the importance of native plants. This year, the Mangrove Chapter achieved a “grand slam” of official proclamations at all five of the local governing bodies in our area – the Charlotte and Sarasota County Boards and the City Councils of North Port, Punta Gorda, and Venice. We are inviting you to join us to show your support, or you can watch online.

Join the Mangrove Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society and member Dr. Mary Davis for a walk at Pinebrook Park at 1251 Pinebrook Road, Venice. This is a backup location as Carlton Reserve Park remains closed to the public.

The Mangrove Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society invites you to join us to learn more about the "Giant Air Plant – An Endangered Species Rescue,” at Lemon Bay Environmental Center, 570 Bay Park Blvd., Englewood.  Members of Friends of Carlton Reserve, Serenoa FNPS, and Selby Gardens, Sherm Stratton and Dr. Linda Lovallo will describe the work they’ve done as Sarasota County volunteers who are part of a local State permitted team helping to save the endangered Giant Air Plant, Tillandsia utriculata. BYOPicnic social at 12:15pm. Mangrove Chapter Walk - Aug 15, 8 a.m. - Manasota Scrub Preserve/East

Thursday, August 15 at 8:00 AM.  Join the Mangrove Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society for a walk at Manasota Scrub Preserve/East -  Walk a 1.5 mile loop through mesic pine flatwoods and next to two wetlands. Meet in the parking lot just a few yards from Manasota Beach Rd (2695 Bridge Street, Englewood) at 8 am for a 1 hour walk. All our activities are free and open to the public. Please bring water and sunscreen as the weather will be hot.   Please no dogs or smoking/vaping.  For additional information email mangrovechapter@fnps.org.
